Aren’t shoes one of the worst things you can store away safely? You want to be sure they are nicely stored otherwise you could damage or scuff them. But they don’t exactly lend themselves to be stacked nicely, do they?
You can buy shoe cabinets to store them in of course. But not every bedroom has room for one of these – and nor does every house. But there is another alternative you might like to consider, and you should already have the main item sitting right there in your bedroom.
We’re talking about your wardrobe. Most of us have got one of some description, and it is one of the best places to keep your shoes in. Some wardrobes already have a built in shoe space underneath the main hanging compartment. But even if you have filled this up you can still make use of the main compartment as well.
Before you start, clear your entire wardrobe out. Take this opportunity to throw away any clothes you no longer wear or need. Recycle them or give them to charity if you can. Do the same with your shoes too – you might find you have fewer pairs to store than you think you do.
Once you have done this you need to purchase some kind of shoe rack or cabinet to sit in the bottom of your wardrobe. Ideally this should go no further across than halfway, as you need to accommodate any full length hanging garments at one end. Put back all your clothes and measure the gap you have left. This will tell you how far across you can go with your new shoe rack.
The best type to get is one with a solid top to it. This enables you to sit odd items on top of the unit to make the most of the space. This could mean other pairs of shoes or perhaps belts or bags of some kind.
The key thing to remember here is to clear everything out before you start. If you try and take the quick route to organising your wardrobe to fit your shoes in, you will find you have a much harder job to do. This is because you can easily misjudge the amount of space you need. Tackling a clear out at the same time makes life much easier – and you might even be able to fit a bigger shoe rack in as well!
